Our Team

Today, Brisbane Orthodontics is a team of six orthodontists: Roland Hammond, Steven Scott, Andrew Mackenzie, Elizabeth Fisher, Elissa Freer and Matthew Moore – and over thirty support staff. In addition to the reception and dental auxiliary staff, We have an in-house lab technician who provides us with first class ancillary appliances that we use before, during and after orthodontic treatment.

You’ll notice familiar, friendly faces throughout your treatment. A team that is dedicated to creating an environment that is enjoyable for staff, patients and their families.

Roland Hammond

Orthodontist

Qualifications BDSc (Hons), MDSc (Orthodontics)

Roland completed a Bachelor of Dental Studies in 1987 before graduating in Dentistry with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1989. He returned to the University and completed his Masters in Orthodontics in 1995. On graduating, Roland spent two years in specialist orthodontic practice in London before returning to Brisbane.

In 2000 he joined the Brisbane Orthodontic Group. Roland is a Past President of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (Queensland Branch), and has been involved as a clinical supervisor at UQ.

When not at work, Roland and his wife Kate love to escape to “Straddie” and the beach related activities the island allows. This is when they are not chasing their four teenage kids around the countryside.

Steven Scott

Orthodontist

Qualifications BDSc (Hons), MDSc, MRACDS

Steven graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1999. After a period of practising in the United Kingdom he returned to Australia and completed his Masters in Orthodontics at the University of Queensland in 2004.

On graduating, Steven spent over two years in Specialist Orthodontic practice in Northern NSW before returning to join Brisbane Orthodontics.

Steven has published on excellence and quality control in treatment outcomes.

Andrew Mackenzie

Orthodontist

Qualifications BPhty, BDent (Hons), DCD Ortho

A graduate of Brisbane Grammar School, Andrew completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. He then graduated with honours from Dentistry at the University of Sydney, where he received numerous academic and clinical prizes. He practiced as an Associate Dentist in Goondiwindi for 6 years prior to completing his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry, specialising in Orthodontics at the University of Melbourne, where he conducted research in the biomechanics of Invisalign.

Andrew is a keen sportsman and enjoys surfing, cricket, and snowboarding, as well as holidaying with his wife and three children on the Sunshine Coast.

Elizabeth Fisher

Liz graduated from the University of Queensland in Dentistry with Honours in 2009 where she received the David Dunlop Memorial Bursary for undergraduate orthodontics.

She worked in private practice in Brisbane and held a teaching position at the University of Queensland before returning to complete a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry specialising in Orthodontics.

When not at work, Liz enjoys cooking and escaping to the Sunshine Coast with her husband and daughter.

Elissa Freer

Qualifications BDSc (Hons), MDSc (Orthodontics)

Elissa is an alumna of Stuartholme school. She graduated in Dentistry with Honours from the University of Qld in 1988 and went on to complete her specialist orthodontic training there in 1997. She is an active member of the Australian Society of Orthodontics (ASO) and the ASO Research Foundation and international orthodontic associations (WFO, AAO).

Her areas of interest include Sleep Disordered Breathing (snoring) in Children and Adults. She is a lecturer in orthodontics at the University of Qld and is an instructor and examiner on the Post-Graduate Orthodontic training program. Her mentors include Dr Rick Olive and Dr Bob James both former Brisbane Orthodontics partners.

She is currently involved in research projects on the accuracy of Invisalign treatments and the effect of babies positioning on developing malocclusions.

Her interests include fishing and exploring Fraser Island, bushwalking and bird watching.

Originally from the Darling Downs, Matt pursued a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at James Cook University before dedicating six years to rural and remote dental practices in the Atherton Tablelands and Cape York.

Matt completed his specialist orthodontic training at the University of Queensland, and has called Brisbane his professional home since 2021. Matt stands out for his dedication to patient care, continuous learning, and active participation in orthodontic associations.

Outside the clinic, he's an enthusiast of spearfishing, camping, golf, live music, and gardening, sharing this passion with his daughter.
