Treatment Methods
Orthodontists employ a variety of treatment options to correct malocclusions. Not all appliances work in the same manner and each offers advantages and disadvantages. Your orthodontist will advise you of the best treatment method for your particular problem and will offer options if applicable.
Braces still offer the greatest degree of control over your teeth and will be the treatment of choice in the majority of cases.
The following are examples of common treatment methods:
Conventional stainless steelbraces - Colours optional
Clear ceramic braces - The aesthetic option to conventionl braces. Note that ceramic braces are not often used on the bottom teeth because of wear concerns. Ask your orthodontist if your teeth are suitable or not.
Lingual braces - Invisible braces placed on the inside of the teeth (Suitable for selected cases only)
Invisalign - A series of removable clear appliances worn full time which gradually align the teeth. Patients need to be mid to late adolecent or adult. (Suitable for selected cases only)
Removable appliances - Suitable for minor tooth movement and for holding teeth straight after braces
